Product Care
Taking care of your polymer clay jewelry is super simple!
There are just a few things you need to know.
Store in a safe place.
Polymer clay is very durable and when protected, it should stay in great condition for a very long time. The surface of the clay can get scratched so keep your pieces in a safe space during storage or travel. I like to keep mine in a drawstring bag when I travel.
Keep your jewelry dry.
Do not wear your polymer clay jewelry while swimming or showering. Do not submerge in water. Exposure to water can jeopardize the finish of your pieces.
Avoid solvents.
In general, polymer clay has excellent chemical resistance. However, your pieces may be finished with a varnish or resin. Therefore, be careful not to expose polymer clay products that contain solvents like nail polish remover (acetone), perfume, and hair care products.
Avoid bending.
Polymer clay should be bendy when baked properly but repeated bending can damage your jewelry permanently. Bending can also cause surface finishes like resin to peel off.
Cleaning is easy.
To clean your jewelry you can use a baby wipe or damp paper towel and lightly wipe the surface. If you find makeup on your pieces, use a cotton swab and isopropyl alcohol to gently rub off the makeup stain.
You can restore the sheen.
If you find that after a gentle washing, the piece looks dull, you can lightly apply petroleum jelly to add a lovely sheen to your earring. This is especially true for dark, solid colored clay. Apply with your finger and then rub off the excess with a microfiber towel or an old cotton t-shirt.
